The Australian Packaging Covenant is an agreement between government and business to share responsibility for the environmental impacts of packaging.
Adaptation regularly helps businesses meet their APC requirements by:
Measuring their packaging and it's environment impacts using tailored databases
Developing real world Action Plans to manage or reduce these impacts each year
Implementing Action Plans, including on-the-ground assistance - e.g. managing working groups, conducting packaging assessments against the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines and PREP tool, identifying packaging improvements and establishing on-site or extended producer recycling systems
Producing Annual Reports showcasing packaging achievements
Liaising with the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) and keeping abreast of regulatory requirements
In addition, Adaptation also helps to set tailor-made targets and seek opportunities for each of their product categories, in a way that was sensitive to the wide array of packaging materials and products across the business. This enabled them to set targeted communication and goals within their buying teams to avoid, reduce, reconfigure or recycle packaging to meet Australia's National Packaging Targets by 2025:
50% of average recycled content included in packaging (revised from 30% in 2020)
The phase out of problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics packaging
Adaptation's work achieved APCO Industry sector awards in 2017 and 2021.
